Lunch was quiet as Lucy’s head was filled with thoughts about the chat she just had with Vanessa while Loke was thinking about the training he just had.

Loke glared at the man who stood before him with caution as he went on about the mistakes he made.

“You lost your cool, if you hadn’t done that, you would’ve recalled which direction the wall was and proceeded there quickly and accurately.”

Loke winced. It was true, he had been too lax and was caught completely off guard.

“You’re nimble, I’d give you that, but nothing once you’re pushed to defence especially if you’re against someone with high offensive skills.”

“Yeah, well, I’ve been fine up till now.”

“You? Yes. As a matter of fact, you need not worry about death since you’ll just return to the spirit world. But your master? No. She is very reliant on her spirits and needs you guys to be more supportive.”

Loke’s eyes went wide. In the heat that got to his head, he forgot about Lucy’s safety. If Drake wasn’t aiming for him but her, she’d be dead or abducted in the instant he was blinded.

“I’ve seen your teamwork and you guys no doubt have a good chemistry, however, once one of you guys are down, you’re out.” A pause as Drake observed the frustrated Loke. “And we’re gonna fix that.”

“We?”

The others were just chewing away like this was just another normal day; which was true, to them it’s just another normal day. Loke’s eyes drifted from the people seated around the table to his master, only to find that she had barely even touched her food.

“Lucy, I’ll help you with that.” Loke offered, pointing towards the piece of steak she hadn’t touched.

Brought out of her thoughts, Lucy quickly shook her head and pointed at Loke’s plate.

“You hadn’t even touched yours.” Looking back into his eyes in assurance, she continued, “I’ll be fine.”

Smiling in appreciation, Loke returned his attention to his plate and began cutting away only to be interrupted by the sight of his glass of water trembling on the table. Curious, he looked up and glanced at the other’s drinks. He wasn’t the only one. Most of the others were already looking around, cautious at the mild quake. Kyle quickly picked up his napkin and wiped his mouth, all while getting up from his seat.

“I’m gonna take a look.” He announced as he left with Drake’s nod as an approval.

It didn’t take long for a loud explosion to sound from the gate and a few yells here and there to break out, causing everyone to stand and begin forming a circle around Lucy, just in case it was the forces coming to claim the princess. To Lucy’s shock, even Vanessa held a blade in her hand. However, Joel and Cain had managed to squeeze her into the inner circle with Lucy, making her pout and Lucy smile at the cute gesture.

However, all it took was one shout to disperse the circle.

“LUCY!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

“Eh?” Lucy blinked.

“Tch, what the hell, it’s just your boyfriend.” Joel complained.

“Eh?” She blinked again.

“Isn’t it nice to be young?” Vanessa commented with joy as she returned to her seat, Cain helping her to it.

“Eh?”

Drake had replaced himself without a word while Lucy turned her attention back to Loke.

“Lucy…” Loke was wiping away tears of joy. “Congratulations.”

“NOT YOU TOO!!!” Lucy snapped.

Just then, the door slammed open with Natsu pushing Kyle backwards into the room, flamed fists against short blades.

“FRIEND OF YOURS?!” Kyle squeezed out as he desperately tried to match Natsu’s insane strength.

“Boyfriend, actually.” Joel replied, placing another piece of steak in his mouth.

“DON’T DECIDE FOR YOURSELF!” Lucy retorted.

“Lucy!” Natsu finally let up his fists as his face lit with delight at the sight of the girl.

While said girl rubbed her forehead, not knowing what to do. “Natsu…”

-----

“Okay? So they aren’t the bad guys.” Lucy finally concluded, a satisfied smile on her face when she was done.

However, the smile didn’t last long when Natsu just continued staring at the blonde.

“N-Natsu?” She probed.

It was getting scary. The pinkette hadn’t said anything throughout her whole recount and just sat there, staring at her.

“So…” He finally breathed. “The asshole I fought to get here was the one who hurt you badly in the warehouse.”

Lucy gulped, not liking where this conversation was going.

“And after I plotted how to murder the man…”

Natsu…Lucy cringed at his childishness.

“You’re now telling me that he’s a friend?”

Lucy didn’t know what to say. She herself had quite the shock when it was revealed.

“Y-yeah…” She answered dumbly.

Natsu took another breath. “I’m sure it’s OK if I just unman him right?”

Rather than waiting for an answer, he just stood to leave the room, Lucy’s room, but the girl quickly grabbed his arm to stop him.

“Wait! No it won’t be ‘OK’!”

Sighing, Natsu sat back down beside the blonde, resting his forehead on her shoulder.

“Are you okay?” He asked, his voice sounding unnaturally soft, as though she’d break if he was his usual rough self.

For a moment, the memory of the impact of a metal pipe slamming into her shoulder returned to her and she froze, but the painful sensation was soon replaced by the touch of his forehead on her shoulder, helping her fear dissipate.

Taking a sharp breath, she smiled and patted his head. “Yeah.” She began. “I’m okay.”

-----

“You’re moving too fast!” Drake called out to Loke, who by now was throwing out attacks rather than planting them. “Stop to think.” Drake stressed but it had only fell on deaf ears.

Tired of the unproductive training, Drake grabbed a hold of one of Loke’s Regulus Impact with his magic absorbing gauntlet.

“Enough. Come to me after you’ve cooled your head.” He instructed before turning to leave, robes fluttering in the cold winter wind.

Despite the biting cold air, Loke continued to perspire and hot breaths left his mouth as he desperately tried to keep his emotions in check.

I need to get stronger…

Memories of how Natsu had been able to single handily push back Kyle came back to his mind and his drive to fight came back. Pouncing, he sent another blow into Drake’s direction, cause the latter to side step in an attempt to dodge the attack. It ended with much success but Loke wasn’t done, with his hands supporting his weight, he twisted his waist to send another blow into Drakes head with one of his leg.

Drake, realising that the spirit wasn’t done, took hold of his leg in order to swing him away, but Loke immediately reacted by turning his whole body to send his other leg into the man’s shin.

Drake doubled over, immediately losing his grip on the spirit’s leg but was quick to catch the next punch Loke threw at him. By now, he had recovered and began to rise from where he knelt, twisting Loke’s hand to his back. With his arm locked, Loke couldn’t help but drop to a kneel when Drake added pressure to his arm, causing his nerves to sing in pain and his knees go weak.

As soon as he was down, Drake set his own foot against the back of Loke’s knee to set him in a deadlock.

“Better. But not good enough.” Drake graded as he released his hold on Loke. “We’ll continue tomorrow.”

“But–”

“Don’t let your master worry too much.” He explained, chin tilting in the direction of the mansion.

Loke turned to find Lucy watching over them from the second floor window, worry knitted into her brows.

Sighing with a smile, Loke complied.
